Blackshaws Sponsors 'Schools Go Free' at Alnwick Playhouse
Giving local school children the chance to experience the magic of film and cinema.
We are proud to announce that Blackshaws is sponsoring the Schools Go Free initiative at Alnwick Playhouse. This new programme will give school children in Alnwick the opportunity to experience the magic of film and theatre at the Alnwick Playhouse twice a year, completely free of charge.
The arts play a vital role in communities, particularly in historical market towns like Alnwick and across Northumberland. Removing the cost barrier, Schools Go Free enables local school children access to both film and live performances, offering not only entertainment but valuable cultural experiences. Research shows that engagement with the arts can support children’s learning, creativity and wellbeing.

Both Blackshaws and Alnwick Playhouse share a long heritage in Alnwick and the wider Northumberland area. Alnwick Playhouse celebrates its 100th year this year, while Blackshaws celebrated theirs in 2019, highlighting a shared commitment to serving the local community for generations.
